Academic submission toolkit

The pipeline,
under control.

Galley is a browser-based toolkit for academic writers managing active submission pipelines. Track articles and pitches, run pre-submission checklists, log revisions, and audit your prose for AI-tell constructions. One file. No login. No recurring fees.

R299  once-off

"The dread of not knowing. Not knowing which version you sent. Not knowing how long something has been sitting with an editor. Not knowing, when you open your laptop on a Tuesday morning, whether you have three articles under review or four."

Four modules
01 — Submissions

Your full pipeline at a glance

Every article and pitch tracked in one place — journal, publisher, platform, version, dates, status. The status vocabulary covers the full lifecycle: drafted, pitched, under review, R&R, accepted, in production, published, commissioned, rejected. Each article carries a structured submission history recording every journal it has been sent to, with outcome, dates, and notes. Three rejections before acceptance — all visible, nothing lost.

02 — Readiness

Pre-submission checklist, per article per style

Select your article, citation style — Chicago, APA, MLA, Harvard, Vancouver — and whether the piece is sole-authored or co-authored. Work through five categories: document preparation, reference formatting, layout, ethics and compliance, and cover letter. The ethics section covers AI use disclosure, data availability, funding declaration, and conflicts of interest. Don't submit until it reads 100%.

03 — Revisions

Version history per manuscript

Each article gets a revision log: version number, date, what changed. Over time it becomes a reliable record of how a manuscript developed from first draft to submission — which matters more than you think when you're on v17 and can't remember what changed between v14 and v15.

04 — Style audit

AI-tell detection for academic prose

Paste a passage and the auditor analyses it for structural patterns that signal formulaic or artificial writing: triadic padding, manufactured binary contrast, anaphoric stacking, escalating gravity, thesis restatement at close. Each flagged sentence returns with the pattern identified, the exact phrase quoted, a diagnosis, and a fix principle. Use it at the late-draft stage, not the first.

What else
No login required
Galley runs entirely in your browser. Your data lives in localStorage — nothing is transmitted, nothing is stored on a server.
One file
A single HTML file. Open it in any browser on any machine. No installation, no dependencies, no updates to manage.
Export & import
Back up your full pipeline as a JSON file. Restore it on any machine. Your records travel with you.
One price
R299, once. No subscription, no recurring charge, no feature tiers. Pay once, use it for as long as you need it.
Pitches & op-eds
Track journal articles and pitches to online platforms in the same pipeline. Aeon, Unherd, and similar outlets with their own response windows and outcome vocabulary.
Built by an academic
Galley was built because its author needed it. The submission history, the ethics checklist, the reformatting problem — all of it came from real use.
A note on the style auditor
The style auditor uses the Anthropic API, which requires a free API key from console.anthropic.com. Think of it like website hosting — except it only costs anything when you use it. A heavy week of late-draft revisions might cost twenty cents. A quiet month costs nothing. Setup takes two minutes, and the instructions are inside the app. Everything else in Galley — the tracker, the readiness checker, the revision log — works immediately with no key required.
